My computer shuts down then reboots. When I send the error report it says my modem is not working properly. I have webstar dpc 2100. I contacted my cable provider and they ran a check and found no problem. They blame the computer. What can I do to correct this problem? Thanks

... are you using "usb" or "ethernet" cable to the modem?... which one?

... does your pc reboot and shutdown "without" the modem hooked up?

Hi Cathey,

Is your cable modem connected to your computer via USB or ethernet cable? I'm thinking that the problem is within your computer, therefore your modem can't function properly.

I haven't heard of an external modem causing a computer to reboot unless there is a problem with the software, but I haven't really heard of that either. When did you start having the problem with your computer rebooting?

It could be related to heat, bad memory, power supply..etc.
More details could help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I use usb. Never unhooked modem. It did this a couple of years ago, but as of late been doing it more often. For example, yesterday it shut down twice within 2 1/2 hours. Today been lucky so far. Thought it could be over heating but it rebooted within 30 minutes of turning it on yesterday. May try to check the fan.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that the plastic mount on your heat sink has cracked/broken and come loose.
