computer resets on every shutdown

everytime my computer restarts, everything gets reseted. Like if i moved my desktop items, changed my background, changed some settings, they all get reset. And it treats me as if im made a new user account (or just bought the com.) Like it asks me if i want to take a tour of windows XP.

You may have a corrupted profile. You can logon with another administrator account. Rename your usual profile folder, then login as usual and see if things "stick".

I have the excact same problem as subliminal, any help is much appreciated. All settings reset after reboot/startup, and I also suddenly need to change from american keyboard, which never before has been installed on this machine.
Rick McNabb: I even tried making new profiles but with same result. Windows XP loads, then the screen turns black for a second and there we go again. I turned system restore off, but it did not help.
