I have a problem that whenever I use my computer sometimes it will just randomly turn off. It doesn't even go through the shut down process, but rather it's like a complete loss off power, and the next thing is my system is off line. I don't think it's a virus scan, I run one every night, and I never detect that my computer has any. I have a Sony Vaio Laptop, running Windows XP Pro, with a stick of 512 RAM. My processor is a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4. If anyways knows what could be causing this, please let me know. Thank you very much.

I had freeze ups and random reboots for months and couldn't figure it out. I knew it was hardware related but didn't know what.

Today I flashed the BIOS, did a clean install of XP and updated drivers for everything I have (in that order). So far so good, I would normally have had several crashes by now.

I did learn that most crashes in XP are caused by hardware (usally drivers). I got this from Tech TV.

I went to the web sites for each of my hardware and software for the drivers. It's funny how XP crashes, blames the drivers and it's Microsoft's drivers that causes the crash to begin with.

Good luck
