Please help! my computer works great when i first turn it on, but after its on awhile, maybe an hour or more,no matter how many programs are running even if its just one, my computer will not respond when i try to use it to open a new window,or close one already opened. my music(launchcast)or other music i've listened to will start skipping. I know its not good to turn off the pc by pushing the off switch ,but sometimes its the only thing that works. My comp. has hardly anything stored. No music,no files, a few pictures. But nothing that would explain the running slow or being non-responsive. I'm current with all the windows update available.I checked for viruses and adware and nothing comes up. So what could I do to solve my problem? PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Win XP might run better with more RAM.

Sounds as though it might be overheating or possibly some spyware is hogging your resources.

Open your case and check your fans are working, keep your case open to monitor the fans behaviour especially when your PC starts acting up.

For the latter run some anti spyware such as Spybot and Adaware SE but as your PC slows with time run these products first off at boot.

There is also a piece of software you could try for a quick check and thats HijackThis available here:

Once you have the result post it in the analyser here for the results:

Personally I think it's probably a hardware issue but it's early doors yet.

Post back after you have tried to eliminate some of the possibilities or become stuck.

Please do not post your HijackThis Log here unless someone specifically asks for it(site policy). Thankyou

Sorry overlooked the RAM spec. You do not have enough RAM double it up at least, in fact I suggest 256mb bare minimum.

You stated above:

CPU/Ram: 64KB

XP uses all of, at least, 128MB to run properly,
and works better. Then you need more than that
for running other programs. Try 256 or 512 more.

If you're using norton or macaffee as antivirus, turn off the auto protect feature and it should solve your music playing problems. Your computer comes with 64MB of RAM and supports up to 512MB. I would reccommend a new comp, but if that is out of the question, downgrade to an Operating System such as Win98 SE. The comp struggles to support XP I'm sure. If you do downgrade, you will lose all of your info. Back up anything important.
