My computer locks up when I boot it up right before the window welcome screen or during it. The only way I can boot up the computer is if I tap F8 and hit Last Known Good Configuration. This has been going on for more than a week. I tried to do a repair intallation but this did not help. Does anyone have any ideas what I can try to do and can I keep booting the computer this way indefinately (last known configuration).

Your CurrentControlSet in the registry needs fixing.

This is a complicated issue - first have a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=100010

I have seen sites in the past that exlains what to delete/change in the registry and a search on Google may find the exact procedure (unless someone here knows lol).

Good Luck
