Computer locks up during boot

CPU/Ram: Athlon 1100/128

My computer locks up when I boot it up right before the window welcome screen or during it. The only way I can boot up the computer is if I tap F8 and hit Last Known Good Configuration. This has been going on for about a week and I have no idea why. I would greatly appreciate any help.
