Are you talking about a startup password or a windows password?

Some people are lucky, some not. Needless to say it's always Caveat Emptor with eBay. Anyway, did you also receive Dell XP CD along with the computer?

Sorry no cd's no nothing, the person I bought it from is saying that they never used a password, I find that strange as it keeps asking for one, it is registered to a different name from the person I bought it from, cheers.

It sounds like it is stolen. Different user ID, removed ID tag. Call up the person who sold it to you and tell them your going to call the authorities unless they provide some info.

I agree with Kurt. Is there a password on the admin account when you boot into safe mode. Do you have another computer you could slave the hard drive to?

how about pulling out the mob battery for an hour or so and replace it and then getting into bios and set it to boot from cdrom and reinstalling windows? If F2 doesn't work, just keep tapping the Esc key....that may work
I know you said no CD was included, but you may get another really cheap....

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Slaving a hard drive is when you connect up the hard drive out of the computer into your other one so you can access the files of it. If you would like to do this i can tell you a way of getting the windows passwords of the computer. Give me an email at grusomhat@hotmail.com as it will be easier to explain through email.

There are tons of posts answering how to reset the admin password in a situation like this. You should just go ahead and bite the bullet and reformat/reinstall. Chances are it si stolen as stated above. You caould call Dell and see if there are any other ways to ID it and trace it so you can find out if it was reported stolen. You may be out a few bucks but, if it turns out to be the case the @$$h0les that burned you might get locked up.

On Dell Computers if you go into the BIOS it gives you the service tag in one of the screens.
