I have put together my computer. It has an Asus A7V8X motherboard(without fire-wire), AMD Athlon Xp 2200+, 512mb ddr ram (pc3200), 120GB Western Digital hard drive, etc and a scan 350W midi tower case from scan.co.uk. Running on Windows XP Pro. For some reason the computer either turns off or freezes. When it turns off it will go back on as soon as you press the button. When it freezes I have to reset the computer. Event Viewer isn’t much help so I don’t know what causes this. I recently installed Direct X 9(I have a vision tech Geforce 4 4600ti card). Could this be the problem? Does my mother board need more power? The temperature of the CPU is about 54C.

it sounds like a heat problem, you never mentioned the heatsink and fan or any extra case fans. get a volcano or coolermaster.
54c is high for your processor, also a 350w ps is a bare minimum, maybe a 430 enermax.
hope this helps

thanks.......
i have 3 fans running off the power supply. one at the front, side and back. i did a bios update (apparently it fixes a temperature reading in the bios) now the temperature is about 42c. the cpu fan/heat sink is a coolmasters copper heat sink.
