Computer keeps shutting off

Ok, I just installed Windows ME. I then tried to upgrade to Windows XP, but during the set up my computer shut down, I tried doing this a couple more times and eventually windows stopped detecting my CD-Rom drive. Now my computer just randomly shuts down. Any idea what it could be?
