Computer keeps restarting randomly

July 4, 2009 at 17:16:41
Specs: Windows XP
I am having problems with my computer restarting out of nowhere. Sometimes when it restarts, it goes all the way through but sometimes it gets stuck and doesn't restart but the power light is still on. I just recently took it in to get repaired and they put in a new power supply. everything was working until that happened. Afterwards, it started with the random reboots/shutdown. Sometimes it would last for 5 minutes before it reboot and sometimes after about 4 hours, it would reboot so its random. could anyone possibly tell me what could cause this. I sent my computer back to the shop to check and they said it ran for them the whole time it was there. Keep in mind I only brought the box/harddrive part of the computer (the main thing). No other cables or parts.

It may be a fatal error that is causing the computer to restart. You can easily stop the restart problem by changing your system features to restrict automatic startup when your computer's having a problem. Here is how:

Use System Failure Settings to Stop Automatic Restarts.

1. Click Start and Open the Control Panel
2. Go to System and Maintenance, Click on System.
3. Select Advanced System Settings and choose Advance tab.
4. Under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings.
5. Under System failure uncheck Automatically restart.
Hope this helps!

My computer is doing the same thing even with the whole thing shutting down but the power light staying on Im ready to throw it out the window!! My auto shut off is OFF and was never on but it still doesn it. I've done the same things listed above I've also unistalled DVD/CD drivers and reinstalled them because my brother inlaw replaced them and also reinstalled windows for us. We also had the same issue with it working fine for other people we had my brother inlaw look at it again and it was totally fine for him and it worked fine after that for awhile than once again it started acting up
