Hi
I posted a problem a few days ago, reference 170125 which is still occuring, however over the past few days, my computer has been freezing (i.e the mouse stops moving) sometimes after 5 minutes and sometimes after an hour or so. when i reboot, i get a blue screen and windows checks the 2 disks and truncates some files. can you give me a link please to resolve this? I will post more details when I have them.
thanks

Danny,

You might have a failing disc issue. look in the event viewer and see if there are any issues. highlight the issues and double clk them to bring up a possible cause report and please post back as to what they are!

control panel > admin tools > event viewer (there are three different issues please check all three for possible problems)

I would boot into safe mode and run the AVG program along with any other anti spyware/malware programs you may have.

Whether or not you are using Internet Explorer, when it is installed it includes files not specifically for the internet browser that are required for other programs that run in Windows, including other browsers. There should be an Internet Explorer folder (directory) and files in it in any case.
You should never have any components of two anti-virus programs, or two anti-adware/spyware/trojan programs, running at the same time, or you are likely to have problems.
- if you have Roxio EMC 7.0.x installed, it has bugs that interefere with AVG free 8 which require you update it (Roxio) or un-install it,
- AVG free 8 comes with an anti-spyware component enabled as well

There are obviously a lot of things wrong with your Windows.
AVG rarely gives me any problem at all, and even when it does, un-installing it in Add/Remove and re-installing it always fixes that.

Check your hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostics.

If you don't have a floppy drive, you can get a CD image diagnostic utility from most hard drive manufacturer's web sites, but obviously you would need to make a burned CD, preferably a CD-R for best compatibilty, on another computer if you need to.

hi lurkswithin
i've never had a need to use safemode before on this computer, however when i pressed f8 to run safemode today, i got the following white text on a black screen:-

Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\System32\Drivers\then various .sys files.

The text wasn't moving so after leaving it in that state for about 30 minutes with the hard disk green light flashing (obviously doing something), i just rebooted normally. So unfortunately, im unable at present to boot in safe mode and run AVG.

My update of AVG was interuptted yesterday, so i ran it today and it's now up-to-date.

it's crashed about 5 times in as many hours gone by, however after updating AVG, it seems to be more stable now. I'll let you know if it goes again.

to Tubesandwires - im still digesting your message. thanks.
