How to log on to your Windows XP-based computer if you forget your password or if your password expires:

Basically, first lets try to log in with administrator. If the administrator account has a password that you dont know (make sure you try no password), there are additional things you can do to reset your password. Like a Hirens Boot CD:

Please provide make/model and if you are running XP Pro or Home (SPx) in any reply. Thanks!

Is this an XP or bios password? A bios password request will come up before XP starts to load. If that's what it is and if the computer is a desktop and not a laptop you can usually clear that by opening the case and locating the 'clear cmos' jumper. With the power cord removed, jumper it to the 'clear' position for a few seconds and then put it back to 'standby'. Then plug it back in, start it up and see if everything loads OK.

Sometimes there will be a separate password jumper, either to enable one or to clear it. You may need to consult your system or motherboard manual to find that.
