I have just upgraded my system to an AMD 3700+
The one it replaces is a AMD 1.2 which has been
used with my Icom IC-R8500 to decode live signals from Ships, without any problems!!However since changing to the 3700 the hash coming from the computer has reduced my range
from abt 30 miles to 15.
It can bee seen on the "s" meter a reading of
about "s-5".
I have tried them both at the same time & the
coverage is the same on both.If I then Switch off the 3700 the "s" meter drops to zero & the range is then increased by approx double!!!
Any Ideas most welcome please!!!
This was supposed to be an upgrade..Huh!!!Thanks

Perhaps some kind of shielding?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

now this could be the proverbial needle in the haystack.
my 1st guess would be the power supply unit, not saying it's faulty but badly shielded.
... or the hard disc motor ... or one of the fans.
gosh, i don't envy you sorting this one out as there are plenty components inside your box that could possibly cause the interferende. in the end you might as well go back to your old computer.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with high frequencies being generated from the HDD (or at least the HDD card). Don't for get... HDD heads are electro-magneticly based. I can see the interference in the TV when I get my laptop too close to it. The interference increases and decreases... in tune with the read/write action of the HDD.... makes you think a little more seroiusly about the little rumors like cell phones and brain cancer!!
