Hem, FWIW, Windows seems to have been plagued with shutdown problems of one sort or another since day 1. I use a standalone shutdown proggie (for convenience) called 'Slawdog' (said to work on all versions). Get it free @:

among other places. Works good and I drag/dropped the icon into my quicklaunch so it'd be handy for use. Maybe?

It may be that one of your applications is failing when windows tells it to shutdown. You can try and determine if this is the case by using msconfig. Start > Run and enter msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and deselect everything in there. Reboot and then shutdown. If it shutsdown ok, you can then start adding things back in the startup tab. Hopefully you will find the one that is causing the problem.
