Computer freezing at Start up

Hi, I'm having a problem where recently my computer has been freezing as soon as I put my password in and it gets into Windows, it freezes but I can still use the mouse but can't click anything, I can also get into task manager and do things in there but I can't open any folders or the start bar. Once I go into task manager all the folders and start bar disappear. I've been assuming the problem is spyware or Adware, but I have no way to do a scan or anything. I've tried booting in safe mode, and still get the same problem. My computer is: Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache) ATI Mobility Radeon 9700/64MB 40GB HDD 512MB DDR

I'm having problems as soon as I log on, not log off. I can't even do anything on the computer because it freezes as soon as I log on.
