A friend of mine uses xps2, 128 mb, IE.

He can surf the net with no problem, except for one site. When he tries to log into that site, his computer freezes and he has to re-boot in order to get going again.

The site in question has a lot of problems in that the usernames and passwords are messed up with some users and as a result, a DNS error message is returned frequently, if not 90% of the time.

I suspect his computer is not handling this error properly and is freezing up. Can someone give me some idea where to look to help him get on this site? Is there a setting that could cause this problem?

Cheers

Warren

Your friend needs to get more RAM.

What's the site? It could be java or flash related. Try clearing your temp internet files. Try upgrading flash or java components.

"The site in question has a lot of problems in that the usernames and passwords are messed up with some users..." Huh?

The site is thegolfchannel.com discussion forum.

With regards to the usernames, passwords, etc.:

different names show up in the login box. Sometimes when navigating the forum you check your profile and it has changed to someone elses. There are a whole lot of issues, but basically, when you try to get into the forum the first time, you get a DNS error most of the time. This only happens with a dozen or so users out of several hundred.

Try doing a full spyware scan/clean to rule those out. Try clearing your cookies too.

Also, might want to make sure your windows is up to date on hotfixes and patches.

if you are using IE7, just go to tools and delete browsing history....make sure to delete everything listed there and see if the problem still persists. If they don't use IE7, I would suggest up-grading to it as it is a much better and safer browser and YES....you really need more ram.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I think it might be time to nuke your computer.
