Hey All,
My neighbor just gave me their laptop to look at because they said every time they plug in a USB device the computer freezes. Well, it was time to wipe out the OS and re-install anyway - so that's what I did - a brand new fresh install. So I put it to the test!! I plugged in a device....AND??? It did the same dag gone thing. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

In that case I guess the internal USB devices may be defective. (Remember - nothing last forever)
The only way to properly diagnosize it is by having a Compaq-authorized technician check it out. (Don't patronize the Mom & Pop Computer repair shop types especially for OEM laptops)

It's weird though that BOTH of them are shot...well, maybe not because they prolly both run off the same controller. When I plug my card reader in, it DOES find it, but freezes for like 8 secs and than unfreezes for like 4 secs, and keeps doing that. When I put my flash drive in, in freezes indefinitely. Only thing to bring it back is a reboot. I guess I'll have to get her to get a PCMCIA USB port card. Thanks for the reply!!
