Hello I've had this problem for a long time, and I don't know how to fix it so plz help. First of all my main problem is that I have an AGP graphic card but I can't install it because everytime i install AGP such as my geforce4 it crashes during anytype of 3D games such as counterstrike jediknight2 heck anytype of games that requires the graphic cards power, and it completely freezes i have to hold down the start button to restart my comp. So I've decided to get an PCI video card, geforce4mx420. It worked fine with all my games but recently it crashes just like the AGP, and I'm totally frustrated with it. Should I get buffered ram? Should I get another motherboard or a new computer?? By the way I have a motherboard of GIGABYTE 7VRX and I only have an onboard sound system of AC97 audio, and my Video card is just PNY verto GEFORCE4 mx420 and I don't have any windows upgrades for my WIN XP PRO. I really hope I don't have to hold down my computers start button again when using any kind of 3D programs

1st thing to do is get all of your windows updates and driver udate from Microsoft.
Also go to Nvidia.com and download the current set of drivers for your card. Upon rebooting enter your BIOS and enable which ever your using, AGP/PCI.

Try updating your motherboard drivers from the chip manufacturer website. If Via chip use latest Via 4n1 drivers. The updates normally include AGP drivers for the motherboard.

No! Getting all the WinXP updates is NOT the first thing to do. The XP updates will not likely cure the freezing problem. And in fact, one XP update has resulted in freezing for some AMD-cpu computers.
Your lockups could be caused by several things, and you don't give much info. about your machine's behavior while doing things other than gaming. Assuming you are having lockups while gaming, but not usually otherwise, read MS KB Article Q321939 at the MS website, which is also the subject of the post #40439 on this board.

In case anyone reads the above, the reference to the MS KB Article should be Q321938 (at the MS website).
