I have this wierd problem, when sometimes when my coputer goes to boot-up it will freeze when the computer goes to access the Windows bootup. Some days is works fine (no freeze) other days I need to reset the computer like 5 or 6 times boefore it finally boots up Windows. Now, I had Windows 2000. I tried Windows XP...still hapens, so I know it's not a Windows problem. I tried a brand new Western Digital 80 gig Hard drive and new cables...still happens. Like I said sometimes it works great for a week and then the next few days restart 3, 4, 5 time to finally get compter to start windows. When it freezes it is just before the Windows screen would appear. Computer never freezes when it gets to Windows, and I don't have any problems using any software, games, or anything else. Any ideas what this could be? HELP this is getting frustrating!!!

What CPU brand and model? ...& the motherboard?
Are you overclocking?
Is this a multi-boot system with more than one OS?
By now you've probably forgotten, but...
It would be very constructive for you to try to recall what hardware or software changes you made just before the problem started occurring. I'd urge you to run isolation tests on your memory, but I think you'd see that show up in Windows error messages.

It's a P4 2Ghz Processor
Motherboard is P4MM2 (I think it's a generic brand)
Not overclocking, not multi boot.I have completly reformated the old hard drive 2 or 3 times and then just tried the brand new 80 Gig drive and got same problem.
I purchased 512 MB RAM a while ago hoping it would help the 256 I had installed. I read somewhere else it could be memory so I uninstalled the old 256 in favor of just the newer Kingston 512MB. I'll give it a few days to see if it works out.

People on the forum don't like telling a fellow forum member that he/she needs to replace a motherboard. The motherbord is made by a company called ASRock. I do not think you're going to find anyone on this forum who has experience working with that particular board.
Does this make sense to you:
Olá, gostaria de trocar minha placa P4VMM2 v7.3 pela sua P4MM2 se ela for a versão 8, que deve aceitar meu processador Celeron D (Você pode confirmar para mim). Aí negociamos o pagamento de uma diferença em dinheiro. Obrigado ?
That's pretty much the only reference to the keyword "P4MM2" I was able to find at google.
Replacing the motherboard WOULD solve the problem, but shop carefully so you can find a system that will allow you to continue using the same memory and cpu.
We're probably talking less than $100 here. If that's way out of budget for you, keep fishing for some other advice on the forum.
Does the freeze last indefinitely, or can you wait 5 minutes and see the OS boot? If so, I'd recommend you stick with the board you've got.
