computer does not recognize any USB ports

September 9, 2010 at 20:04:12
Specs: Windows XP, dell dimension 4500/ 512
I run windows XP. Every now and then, for an unknown reason, the computer will stop recognizing ALL the USB ports and anything attached to them. Device manger shows everything is fine, but i get pop ups stating that windows does not recognize the USB devices attached to the port. A few weeks later, for no known reason, they will start working again. This is beyond frustrating, as my mouse, printer, and external drives don't work for this period of time. I have tried EVERYTHING I know... from restarting, updating drivers, reinstalling software.... and I am beyond angry. CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE?!!! Thanks kindly in advance to anyone who can give me any suggestions....
