I accidently disabled all the start up programs while in msconfig and now my computer will not boot up. I can not get into f2 or f12 functions either to boot from a CD. I end up with a flashing "-" on the left side of the monitor. I need to get back into msconfig to enable the start up programs. Anyone have any ideas about this problem?

Did you try F8? Choose last known good config. It should still boot after disabling all in msconfig How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.
I have recovered some dead mother boards by removing power plug, remove battery off motherboard for fifteen seconds then refit battery, plug in power and restart PC.
Bios will reset to made by date so time will need resetting and maybe some bios settings will need amending. This condition, in my case, was caused by power anomalies that amended data and amended bios at the same time. Condition can be mistaken for virus infections.
My dual boot on one PC left windows uworkable but Linux still functioned.
My other PC was running and the mother board was destroyed.Surge filters did not stop this damage. I have since powered the computers from an APC UPS and never had another problem with XP.
