If your computer starts up you can't load anything, you really dont have a choice but to reformat.

i would suggest getting a better operating system such as windows xp. much more functional, and easier to use

Reformatting is a drastic step. Have you installed the Sasser exploit from Microsoft? If not, do so. You may have the virus and just not know it.

Try this.

Boot from the xp cd and go into recovery console. Once you are in the recovery console and have the command prompt, type chkdsk /r and hit enter. It will tell you that you have to reboot before running chkdsk. go ahead and reboot and hopefully that will solve your problem. If it does, make sure you do a full system virus scan when you get into windows. Most of the time this is related to stability problems with XP. The latest service pack should fix the problem. Make sure you have updated all of the critical updates from microsoft as well.

Does a blue screen ficker for just an instant before it reboots? There is a error message there that you can mabe read by video taping the screen.
