Computer can't read new hard drive

August 13, 2009 at 14:05:26
Specs: Windows XP

I just bought a new internal hard drive because my old one no longer works. When I put it into my lap top my computer acts as if there's no hard drive in it. The new hard drive is a Hitachi 0A57546. The lap top is a Toshiba m35x-s329. I am absolutely lost as to what to do now, can anyone help?

When I take out the hdd and just turn the computer, I get a bunch of messages that just repeat. When I put the new hdd in it does the same thing. When I put the winxp disk in the computer I get the:

"this process will restore the original default system install on your hard drive, etc... f1 to continue"

When I do that I get a warning screen that says "if you do not want to erase the contents of your hdd then press a to abort. to continue press c"

Then when I press c, it stays at that warning screen. Nothing happens
