Ok I was having this problem where I space would mysteriously get taken up on my hard drive while I'm connected to the internet. Then I tried deleting temporary internet files from the internet options. That seemed to help a little bit. Then all the sudden out of no where I was able to free up almost a gig of space when I did a disk clean up and compress old files had a bunch of space on it. I had done a disk clean up many times before and compress old files never had that much space on it. I guess it takes time for those "files" to become old. Is there a way where I can bypass the compress old files method and delete these unwanted files as they build up?

System Restore Point .

Select the drive with the operating system on , click Settings & set it on Min .
Any other drive , click Settings & tick > Turn off System Restore on this drive .====================================
Auto Delete Temporary Folder
http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=2021First go into gpedit.msc
Start > Run , type in > gpedit.msc & press Enter .Next select -> Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Terminal Services/Temporary Folder
Then right click "Do Not Delete Temp Folder Upon Exit"
Go to properties and hit disable.
Now next time Windows puts a temp file in that folder it will automatically delete it when its done!

Seeks out the rubbish left behind by other programs. Use regularly it will save space. It can auto run at times set by you.
