When I hit "disk clean-up" in Lockal Disk properties I always get an opion to clean-up the Recycle Bin, Compresed Old Files and more...

Questions:
What are these Compresed Old Files?

Who do I make Windows not to make them?
-I had win98 before and these Compresed Old Files where there but that Clean-up option was always 0kb...so are they nessesary?

Why does it take for ever to get rid of them??? <--- Thatīs why Iīm trying to make Windows not to make compressed files.

------
This is on my D: partition and it is not set to "Compress files to save disk space nor is my C: partition witch contains my OS...

"Compress old files" is not a "clean-up" utility. It means that it will compress old files to save space, not delete compressed files.

Click on it next time you're in "disk cleanup" to highlight it and it'll give you an explanation in the box below.

I imagine - but don't know - that the Compress Old Files - is intended to be useful if one is running short on HDD Space and\or to marginally speed things up

I've never used it as I'm not short of HDD Space and I understand that it takes quite a while to accomplish this task

I would think that if one's HDD is 1\2 or less Used then there's not much point

It 'decompresses' the Files as and when they are needed and - as you say - it takes ages to do...

...room here for things to go wrong!

But the thing is when I run the Disk Cleanup I get a choise of cleaning out the Compresed Files.

That utility is for cleaning up the drive and making MORE space available.

So why should you be able to "delete" the Compresed old files there just to loose disk space. When in the fist place you go there to clean out un-used or temp spaces...???
