Comment:

I installed a printer recently (used a certain version of the driver). However, I think it may be the wrong one (but Windows took it regardless).

I uninstalled the printer and had the alternative driver at hand. HOWEVER, when I re-attach the printer, XP will pop up the "printer found" box and will automatically install the previous driver. I can't get it to Ask for the driver location in order to point it to the new driver.

Is there a way to Completely remove a Printer driver from XP...so that it has to ask the next time the printer is connected?

THANKS

Have you tried the update option in device manager? It won't remove the old driver but it may let you install the correct one.

I checked that.

It is only for items like a modem, nic, etc. Printers do not even show up in the Device Manager (not that I can see, anyway). Also, neither is there an "update driver" option in the printer's properties.

Go into Control Panel, Printers and open...right click your printer choose properties and under Advanced, you will see "driver" which will give you the opportunity to update the driver.
I am not sure what printer you have but usually you install printer software first then plug in the printer.
