Can anyone help me choose between XP Home and XP Professional editions of Windows? I need to reinstall the OS on my laptop, and am thinking of installing the Home edition, but don't want to lose important features, if that is the tradeoff. Comments would be greatly appreciated

What features don't you want to lose?
The fact that you need to ask the question is an indication that you don't need the extra facilities offered by XP professional. They mostly include enhanced security and networking facilities for use in a commercial environment. XP Home is more than adequate for home use.

If you don't know then I suspect XP home would suit your needs.
As StewartS said, Pro is for Businesses.
Remote desktop, Active directory integration and IIS and much better file control are about all you get for the extra $100.

if you want to network with more then 5 pcs at home you need pro not home.
google 'compare xp home to xp pro' and on the MS web site they have a comparison chart you can review.

Thanks all for some of the most useful and efficient responses that I have ever gotten from a forum query.
