Good day to everyone. Wife brought home a new/still in unopened box Compaq Presario SR2002X Tower. I have never owned a Compaq before, and was looking for some opinions, and new I could find some here. I did some google searches, and did not find any real satisfying opinions. It is a tower/keyboard/mouse. Here is a list of components/software we received for $350.00. The tower which has a AMD Sempron Processor 3200+/512 MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRam/120GB 7200RMP Serial ATA hard drive/CD-RW/DVD Rom combo drive/NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics with TurboCache supporting up to 256MB shared video memory/Windows XP Home/Windows Vista Capable/Sonic digital media plus/Microsoft works 8/Quicken 2006/56K modem/10/100 Base-T network interface. Any thoughts on this just as a system, and how good is the AMD Sempron processor would be much appreciated. This will mainly be used for DSL internet, and light Office duties. Like I said it is still in an unopened box, so I can take it back if I want to. Thanks for your time.
Regards
IKE

Compaq is pretty much the lowest of the low beside gateway. Pretty much the 2 that are most reliable are HP and Dell being the best. Gateway and then compaq, I had a compaq once, and just had problems with it. Never again.

512 mb ram (minus whatever you decide to have shared with your onboard video chip) is not good enough.

While I agree with mattie about the ram (double it), I don't necessarily agree that compaq is so bad a computer....It is mass produced and proprietary as hell and full of unnecessary adds and programs is why it is less expensive...
Over all the computer you have should be able to provide you with what you are asking it to do. It is probably not upgradeable so don't expect to be.
For that price you have a system that will play games( not the best ), burn music, play movies, do book keeping and send/recieve emails plus a lot of other things. It would satisfy most average computer users without to much difficulties.
