Hello, looking around for a way to fix my problem i found this site and watched this link http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...
I have a similar problem , i got a compaq 5410us with celeron 1.3 that my brother wiped the hard drive completely, now im trying to install windows xp pro on it with a regular cd, since i dont have any recovery cds and im pretty sure the extra partition got wiped out as well, anyway , when i insert the cd, boot from it, tried to install everything looks normal , until i get to the point i have to restart the pc and when the pc restarts, nothing happens, the compaq logo comes in and it looks like its about to start but all i get its a blak screen with a white dot . So i thought the computer was broken but i run a xp live cd on it, and it works just fine of a live version of xp, tried suse linux live cd as well with a good succes, so i now this can be fixed just was wondering how, any adeas will be helpfull. Thanks allot for any help.

reinstall windows xp. almost sounds like the computer is unaware of what to do, and is not showing u the different boot options.

make sure when u install xp, u completly reformat the drive (usually c) as well as any and all partitions on it, (unless you kno whats on these partitions).

Hopefully that will solve it, if not im stumped

Is the boot order in the bios set up for:

1. CD
2. HD
and so on?

When setup restarts, it may want to boot from the CD, but if the HD is set before the CD, it may boot to the HD, which has nothing on it.

If setup asks you to take out the CD before rebooting, do you do so? Hope this helps!

I just want to coment , that this is not the first time i load windows on a pc, thats why its kind of weird for me that even knowing that the bios its set to boot on cd then on hd , i took the cd out or ignore the press button message, the pc does nothing. I even found a windows xp home edition for compq pcs and nothing, same problem. What can it cause to not boot from hd but boot ok from cd?
Thanks for the help

Perhaps there is a problem with the HD?
