This is the second time this has happened to me the first time i forgot to uninstall the drivers for the video card. This time we had a power surge but it wasn't a surge we just lost power, but it wasn't total lose of power we still had dim lighting and nothing in our house worked besides the lights. But I've hooked up a network to network my 2 pc's together to share the cable. But the odd thing is both computers are hooked up to the same surge pertector and only one is having problems. And now the computer booted up drives powered up but no beep(for i'm guessing the cmos)? All drives would light up like normal and like 3-5 mins later it would BEEP the monitor would come on and reboot just like normal. Now its gotten worse to where the the computer boots up runs like normal no display on monitor like its not getting the signal from the pc to power it up. But when you turn the cpu on you can hear the monitor almost power up and then not come on?? I don't know if maybe downloaded a virus that got into my cmos or bios? Or it got on the hard drive in the start up system files. If i should format both hard drives one is a slave and is empty but just for safety reasons and start from scratch? NEED SOME HELP HERE!! This comp. has a new motherboard w/ a g-force4 64 or 128 video card which i hope i didn't fry(during the power outage)? So any help would be GREATLY appriciated! THANKS MATT

Sounds like the video card. The monitor will light up with nothing more connected than the power supply and video card. Trade out cards and if that don't work, it is the motherboard.

First check your connection from monitor to video card...could be loose. Just disconnect monitor and reconnect (also check your pins to make sure none are bent) Check your video card to make sure it is seated correctly. It would also be nice to have another monitor to check...
