I was trying to do a simple reformat cause my comp had some virus' and normally it's all fine but this time i did it, i got a error after i deleted windows to reinstall a fresh copy. The message was as followed "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected bootdisk, check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."
I've tried to do a repair, but since windows is completely deleted, it can't. Normally when i do this it just boots up into the setup after all of that and works. Anyone out there help me? Thanks in advance.

Are you booting to the Windows XP CD?

If you 'are' booting from the MS winXP CD, you have to watch the screen closely and hit a keyboard key when it asks. You only have a couple of seconds, otherwise it will try and boot from the hard drive and you can get that error message.

I already booted from windows XP cd. I've already went through the whole first part of the install. (deleting partitions, agreeing to the end user agreement, picking ntfs file system quick and short.) And then i restart it and it comes up with that. The disk is still in the cd rom but for my computer it never has causes a problem. (this is for a friend.) So what could cause this now?

Have you confirmed in the BIOS that the machine is set to boot to the HDD?
