Command prompt would not stay open

June 17, 2011 at 13:25:04
Specs: Windows XP
Would some one Please help.I started off by going into command prompt & typing chkdsk as command prompt would not stay open for me to read & this is the result ...Windows found problems with the file system.... Below that was the message to "run chkdsk with the /F (fix)option to correct these problems".I did and chkdsk says, " /F is not a internal or external command" so what command do I enter?,,,,Bear in mind I,m no computer whizz kid ......Do not just enter the subject "help me," "please help" or something similar to that. That subject is useless for anyone who wishes to read the message or find help in the future. If you try to get around the "help me" ban by using a variant, your message may be removed..... What do you want my birth certificate, I have told you every thing I know...

"...want my birth certificate..." .....psst probably too much info

... if you can manage to load windows click "start" run (type):

chkdsk C: /F [press enter]

... then Y [press enter] to the confirm prompt and restart the pc.

.......................................... let it do its thing!
Demonstrative exspelling
... there is logic to this madness!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... .im

"Case" isn't important but otherwise make sure you type the command exactly as given in #1 otherwise it won't work. Note that there are two spaces (no more no less). It will then check your disk on reboot, the /f allowing it to fix any errors it finds.

No need for your birth certificate (or even your credit card details). The reason for the thing about "Please Help Me" is that we get stacks of those which give no idea what the problem is about - everyone who visits here needs help anyway.

Please do not post then vanish - let us know the outcome
