When I go to my start and run...and i type CMD it tells me "Windows cannot access the speceified device, path, or file. You may not have the apporpriate permissions to access them." Another problem i have is when i do a Control alt delete nothing pops up...well it pops up then just vanishes. Any idea?

Keith, The first thing I'd recommend is to update your virus definitions and do a full virus scan. For the Task Manager problem go to the link below and look under the letter "T" which also states it could be a virus problem which very well may be responsible for your "cmd" problem.

I am not sure about this, but if XP Home uses the fat 32 file system, try typing in the word "command" instead of cmd and see if that works... just a suggestion.
