Comment:

i'm trying to renew my ip address

cmd>ipconfig>ipconfig / release>ipconfig /renew

but i get an error saying 'ipconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command'

however, any other prompts i try with cmd dont work either, eg, sfc/scannow, etc.
what usually happens is, ill type in a command, then the cmd box will just close.

ive ran virus scans, etc, but nothing seems to fix this

any ideas?

First, instead of typing into a RUN box, get to a prompt with:

cmd
[enter]

then:

ipconfig
[enter]

If you get the:

'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

type:

attrib /s \ipconfig*

to find out if it's there and if so, where.

Mine is in:

C:\WINNT\system32\attrib.exe

Then type:

set pa
[enter]

to check your path.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Check to see that those EXE files are in
C:\WINDOWS\system32

Also the way a command is typed can play a critical part in the results. Up above you say
sfc/scannow
That should be
sfc /scannow

You say nothing about checking for Spyware.

Nothing said about path.
