Hi I have a xp installed that has been running good for a while...Now, it's telling me that the ping, netstat, nbtstat and so forth(almost all the protocol-related commands) are not recognized as internal or external commands....what do i do ?

As these are probably core WinXP files, I would do a repair install on WinXP as the first attempt at resolving this. Change BIOS to make the CD-Rom the first bootable device and choose setup and repair after the license agreement. It looks like an install / same Graphic interface. It nly refreshes the WinXP files, no applications or data disturbed. You will lose any restore points though. You could try a System Restore to before when the problem surfaced, as a first try to resolve Good luck
