Come out of power save mode?

Specs: Windows XP, 1GB
I have a problem and I am not sure how to remedy it. I have a desktop running windows XP, I can't remember the specs and I am unable to get it to come out of power save mode to check them for you. I disconnected my dvd drive and temporarily connected it to an older computer to get it up and running. Upon re-connecting the drive to my XP machine, the computer will not come out of power save mode. I re-plugged everything back in, and turned the machine on. I can hear it running, but the monitor says the computer is in power save mode and to push a button or move the mouse to power it on. Nothing happens when I do this. I have tried a different monitor, with the same result. I am unable to enter the bios because all I have is a black screen. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. I have checked that I didn't knock loose any internal connections while I was in the machine. Thanks for you help in advance.
