I am new to this board but was referred by a friend that thought someone might be able to help. I built a new machine about 2 years ago, loaded it up with XP Pro and all seemed fine. In January, I updated to XP Pro SP2 and that is where my fun began. Since then, my video card has stopped responding at boot up. I check the device mgr and it indicates a code 10 - device cannot start. I can disable and then re-enable and it will work fine until I reboot at which point I get the same "device cannot start" error. I am running a 32MB Nvidia AGP card but have tried another, known good, 32MB AGP card and still receive the same error. I have updated drivers and recently flashed the BIOS on my SOYO KT333 Dragon Lite MOBO. I reset the BIOS back to fail-safe defaults.
I found some information on the net that indicated others having similar issues with their AGP slot after installing SP2 but couldn't find a resolution or confirmation of this assumption.
Yesterday, I purchased a brand new PCI ATI 5200 128MB card figuring I would isolate the problem if it was the AGP slot. I was completely wrong. The PCI card give me the same message. The other items on my PCI buss are a sound card and NIC and they both seem to be working fine. All of my issues seem to be related to graphics cards... PCI or AGP. Note; I did change the BIOS to PCI select once I moved over to the PCI buss.
I am now completely frustrated and less $100 in my wallet.
Here are some of the thoughts that I had and need some guidance;
1) Attempt to uninstall SP2 (if that is even possible) since the problem appeared related to the upgrade. Anyone else heard of this problem?
2) Reformat and reload XP but avoid the SP2 (just in case).
2) Downgrade back to Win 2000.
3) Toss contents of case into swimming pool - this is, of course, my last resort but an option I have considered many times.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2

Well you could remove it to see if problem goes away.
Just to say, some Windows Updates can cause other problems to happen in XP. For example:
If I install the IE 6 Security Update Q832894, I then find that all the Help Topics were gone in Windows HELP Index. All came back when I removed
"Internet Explorer Q832894"
from Add/Remove Programs list.SP2 has that update also.

that has a link to order it on CD, if you do not want the trouble of downloading again.

Then again, you have all these other problems:
