hi ive tried almost everything and i think im goign to go crazy here is what is happening. I've formated my hard drive like 11 times trying and ive also installed XP and windows 98 yet i still cant get some applications to install properly. With Xp it boots up fine yet the applications wont run i alwasy get corrupt file which i know its not. When i installed 98 i can only boot in safe mode because i keep getting NDIS errors with graphics . Im at a loss i have no idea what to do next if it is a virus in cmos how do i get rid of it? and if thats not the problem maybe someone can HELP ME PLZ!!!!!

It is very unlikely you have a virus in your cmos. This kind of viruses is virtually unheard of these days.
It is much more probable you have a problem with your hardware. This is most likely to be your HD. You can download various programs that will test the integrity of you HD, I suggest you find one suitable for your HD and run it.
Do you have another PC available at home? You could try removing the HD from the problem comp, add to another comp, and see if you can install windows from there. This would confirm it one way or the other.

yea ive tried a diff hard drive and still got the excat same thing everytime i try to run certain applications with xp i get an error that says its corrupt but it runs fine on the pc next to me running the same OS any other ideas?

Sounds like a damaged IDE controller. Try the drive in another computer and see if that works.
I had never heard of a CMOS virus. but I suppose it is possible seeing as how windows can (and sometimes will) change your cmos settings on you. Had it happen to me on an old Packard Bell P75, kept re-enabling my com-ports after I disabled them.

yea the hard drive works fine in both computers but in mine it wont run certain applications only certain ones though. when i put the hard drive in the other pc it would run em fine. then when i put the other hard drive in my pc it still had the same problem where it wouldnt run certain aps

Try integrity test onyour ram, soundslikethe problem.. search it on google.com
ram tester or similar..

Try different ide cables in the pc that is not working right. Don't know if it will work but it could cause this.
If you want to test your ram goto
www.memtest86.com
and download Memtest86Hope this helps,
Sandman

I had many of the same problems that you are having once it like to drove me crazy files wouldnt load right things would be missing the computer would tell me to reboot to repair my registry files. Well I had two sticks of memory in it and I pulled one out and damn if that wasnt the problem never had another problem with that computer so I would try that if you can some memory will only work in some computers (usually the cheap stuff)

ok i tried changing the memory but still didnt work. Its only not running certain install.exe files like the macromedia flash and such but i know these files work cause ive used them on the other hard drive. IM GOING CRAZY SOMEONE MUST KNOW WHATS GOIN ON
