On the motherboard there is a cmos jumper. Would having it on "clear cmos" rather than normal keep you from installing or doing much of anything with a computer? I keep getting blue screen errors tryin to install winxp everything is unplugged just cd rom a:drive hd and vid card. Any help would be helpfull

The "Clear CMOS" jumper pins should only be shorted when the computer is powered off--operating your computer in this state can damage the motherboard. Leave the jumper in the "Normal" position unless the computer's unplugged and you want to return your BIOS to its default settings.
