Hi there.

Sorry to post another CMOS Checksum Error post but as i've been doing some reseach on the topic i've found that most solutions aren't working for me.

When i turn my computer on, only half the time does the CMOS Checksum Error message come up but all times i havn't been able to get into my WinXP machine.

it automatically gives me the "windows did not previous start properly" screen with me to choose my options.

If i choose Start Win normally the computer hangs on black screen.

if i choose any safemode option the computer hangs on loading the file required for safe mode.

if i try to boot from xp cd to reinstall the xp the computer will freeze at the start when them files are being loading to start the xp cd.

i've tried changing the battery as well as checking everything is firmly connected internally. graphics currently running is onboard.

can someone please help with me any suggestionsss...

thank you..

Do you mean this post?

In any case cannot you just forget about trying to get into Windows?

CMOS checksum is hardware-related problem. It needs to be fixed first before Windows will normally load.

CMOS Checksum Failure

Problem-
A checksum is generated when CMOS values are saved for error checking on subsequent startups. This error message will appear if the checksum is different from one boot-up to the next.

Solution-
Run the setup program again to correct the problem.

I guess setup program is referring to BIOS ??

Like New York City says, hardware problem.

im aware it's a hardware problem.

currently i've tried resetting the jumper
replacing the cmos battery
"load defaults" - bios

and had no luck...

what else is there to try??

could it be a fauly motherboard.. the motherboard fairly new.??

Like the first link list in Yahoo search, leads
to a page that lists problems.
motherboard,
a virus,
power supply,
battery...

"Okay, I took the power supply out of my pc and then put it back in (was just testing another PC) . When i booted up the pc the monitor was playing up so i messed around with the graphics card and sorted the problem. however before doing this i removed the Cmos jumper setting"

From your original post.

If you haven't already done this, I'd take your computer apart and carefully reassemble it. If you still get this error, consider taking it to a shop.

Not sure. Could try another video card ???

I find that at stores like CompUSA, they have a good "return policy". I have returned hardware, got money back, and only I said-- could not get it to work.

Do not get a card that has too high of performance, you may tax any limited output of the power supply.
