Hi there,

I have a motherboard native C-media CMI8738 sound card. My motherboard is a M754LMR from PCchips.

I've downloaded and installed the latest Windows 2000 drivers avaliable from the C-media web site (no XP drivers are avalible).

I'm not recieving any errors during installation of the drivers. The device appears to be working in the device manager.

--- Still no sound! :(

My cmi8738 from motherboard halts the system on windows xp
(hey, its funny winxp error messages now always say it's "hardware's fault").

Win2k drivers installed past the warnings but still crashes.
Also, these are not automatically set as default so i didnt get any sound until selected them
(also checked the "use preferred devices only" box).
I suppose no one forgots to check if the device is on the list...

On my side I can start playing sounds, and after 1 minute, it just stops playing(Winamp stops, real player stops, and Windows Media player gos on, but I get no sound output)
Sounds like the C-Media circuit is really having troubels with XP...
I am afraid I will have to go for a SB...

Just saw that the drivers were available from windowsupdate website.
Unfortunately it still crashes the same way after a few minutes. Unbelievable !!
I had that some time ago with win98 and my SB AWE64 ISA, but Windows Me and 2000 had that fixed...
It is really crap. I am going to by a SB Live and see if it works. If it does not, I will just go really crazy...

as of Nov. 4, there is still no drivers specifically for Win XP, but I got mine to work using a combination of Win 98, NT 4, and Win 2K drivers. It took me a while to figure it out, and I'm an IT prof. What I suggest you do is download each of these drivers and extract them in seperate individual folders, then try each one individually. You first have to have your sound card initialized by one of the drivers, then for each individual components try each of all the drivers. Like I said it will take a while because its not in any particular order but it will work. I think, I don't remember for sure, but first I think it uses the win 2k driver to first even get reconized. If not it was the win 98 driver.
