I'm having problems with my sound card drivers under Windows XP Pro. The system is as follows. WinXPPro, P4-1.7, 256 MB RAM, ASUS MB with integrated sound which is C-Media CMI-8737/C3DX.

The driver installs fine and everything works once I install it and continue with XP without rebooting the computer. Once I reboot, the sound will either not function, or I get loud annoying blips repeating when I try to play a sound file.

Thanks for Your Help Guys.

G.

Try the Windows update. They have updated driver for C-Media sound cards. I have an CMI-8738/C3DX and the drivers that I got with the card never worked under XP.

Avoid the windows upgrade for the driver. It's buggy.
Go to the c-media site and get the drivers for your chip.

Buggy? Not in my experience it isn't. Lacking in facilities maybe, but not buggy.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll try the website drivers next to see if that helps.

The funny thing is, everything was working fine for a long time. Just suddenly did the sound decide to fail after visiting a Flash-enabled website.

Again, thanks!

Thanks for your help guys. The drivers from the website worked perfectly. It seesm that XP tried to download the drivers from the windows update site everytime it found the new hardware. Aborting that and using the C-Media drivers worked.

Thanks.
