Help...
I have windows xp, and now when I boot and click on user, some weird start up log or script shows. It is very brief, and disappears. The only thing I can make out is that the header says cmd.exe.

I remember having a freeware application before that did something similiar, but I removed the program (cant remember what it was - maybe ashampoo uninstaller?).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Patrick

Click start>run and type msconfig. Click on the start up tab and see if you see anything the references cmd.exe

Hope this helps

The file CMD.exe is Microsoft Windows NT command line shell and is more compatible and portable between different hardware platforms when compared to the Original COMMAND.COM which has been used as the command interpreter with DOS for several years. COMMAND.COM is included for backwards compatibility and is recommended that it be used when old MS-DOS programs may not be able to be ran in Windows NT.

That above is for Windows NT, and Windows XP is based on NT's code...

However, with that in mind, I d\found the following for you....

Windows Power Toys adds the following....

****Open Command Window Here****
This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders, giving you a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at the selected folder.

hope this helps,
Tank863
