cmd.exe rather than command.exe???

Is it possible to configure XP to run all dos applications using the cmd program rather than the default command.exe? I've found cmd to run most old dos programs MUCH faster. Only problem is you have to manually open them. Is there a way to associate them with CMD??? Maybe a script?
