What does this mean? You open a command prompt window, type PING, and....what happens?

ccfrank:
>>There is NO DOS in WIN2K or WINXP

Semantics. Replace "DOS" with "command line", which is obviously what the original poster is referring to, and your objection becomes irrelevant.

>>Different file handling system called NTFS

What exactly does this have to do with DOS? ;)

Right click My Computer and select Properties, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button to see if it shows:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 where all of the executables are located.

or go to Start, Run, cmd and then type in:
path to see if it appears there.

jimminy: If I type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx it just do nothing, even if I use ctrl+C it does not kill or cancel the process, using ipconfig, it does not show me my address too, but as a refrerence it works 2 weeks ago, I guees I changed something without remembering it, but it is rare.

Bryco: The executables does appears on the system32 path.

What could it be ?
