Have you recently made any hardware/software changes?

Can you roll the system back to a workable state via Sys Restore, Retrospect, Ghost or other backup scheme?

Can you get to the Command prompt from the start menu? (Under PRograms => Accessories)

AFAIK, there is no cmd.com, so if such a file has shown up, that may be causing the problem.

Try renaming cmd.com to cmd.co- and see if things get better.
