Cloning XP Drive

I've installed a larger drive and have attempted to clone the smaller one to a partition on the new one. Everything seemed to have gone well except, instead of the user selection screen at logon, I just get a windows XP spash screen. That's it. I've tried starting up in safe mode, everything but I just can't get it to work. Any ideas?

You are missing the boot files on the old drive. What program did you use to restore the drive?

I used Norton Ghost 2003. Just to expand I get past the black windows XP loading screen but, instead of users, I just get a Windows XP Logo at the next screen.

I am not sure about 2003 Ghost, as I have not used that in years, but9.0 Ghost gives you the option to replace or bring the mbr and that is what is not happening.

If I ran a windows repair session on that disk would that fix the mbr? I always thought that if you cloned a drive that all characteristics would be copied over.

I have used ghost 2003 to clone my main hard drive onto another as a backup and then change the bios to boot from that one and it works fine, but I was warned that it might take several attempts as it is a bit temperamental, try reformatting the new drive and trying again.

Try it first...and then if it fails a repair should boot it.
