Assuming you are putting the clone back on exactly the same pc, it sounds like a faulty clone disk, did you verify the image after you created it?

It might be possible to "repair the disk (dvd)" with roadkil unstoppable copier.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

Trying to clone to a different machine will fail.

Allow me to reiterate. I have XP Pro. I am trying to clone it to an external hard drive, for use if I crash. That's when I get the eror message.

You can't do that easily. You are better off with ntbackup with system state. Then if it fails, follow the MS pages for use on ntbackup.

Otherwise you need a bootable media to recover. Such as maybe norton's products or acronis or linux live cd with partimage or dd.

Easus Todo will clone to a usb drive

So will Paragon Drive image,

but when you restore, you will need a boot cd.

Perhaps it would be better to create an Image to usb

As for the error, format the usb drive first.

What program are you using?

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

V-clone is not a clone. It is a P2V app.
