Cloned hdd won't boot

I used Norton Ghost to clone my old hdd to my new one, but the new one won't boot giving me an error. I'm pretty sure I know why though, however I don't know how to work around it.
You see my first hdd has 2 partitions, c&d. Most of my stuff including windows is in d, however I'm guessing the system boot files got installed in c. Therefore when I copied all the stuff in d, to my new hdd, the system files weren't copied.
I got way too much stuff to re-install all over again. I need to clone my hdd, however under these circumstances I don't know how to proceed. Anyone have any suggestions?

valkk, sorta roundabout, SWAG, seems like you should be able to install the HDD as a slave drive and make it searchable. Put the files where they need to be? HTH. Ed in Texas.

Did you clone the whole hard drive (both partitions)? If so, you should be able to boot from the XP CD and do a repair install.

.You will only be able to boot from drive C so if your cloned drive is on anything other than C the boot information is not available Stewart
Bit of a wit....half to be precise.

That's pretty close to being correct. When you Ghost a partition (not a drive) the Master Boot Record is not imaged.
I've never tried it, but it might be possible to use a program to save the MBR from the original drive and copy it to the new drive. I have seen programs in the past that would do it, but I don't remember a name.

Of course the new drive will have to be reconfigured as D:. Like mentioned earlier, you cannot install an OS on D:, chnage it to C: and have it work.
