Has anyone had a problem with the time in Windows XP? I have mine set to sync over the Internet, but every so often the time displayed is significantly different. I have the time zone correct and when I manually sync with the Internet it is correct. But then it doesn't seem to run. Then later it will run, but it is now off by anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Example, now it is 0324, but my computer clock says "0050". Any ideas??

Thanks, Ed

Ed,

I have the same problem. I don't know how to fix it however, but i severly doubt it's your battery on your motherboard. (I have a really new computer and i didn't have any time problems with Win98 which i had installed only a little while ago) So don't mess around with that. Hopefully someone knows.

Bad XP, Bad! Keep time correctly.

What kind of apps do you run? I've noticed that my clock loses time when I run CPU intensive apps at higher than normal priority for extended periods of time. Otherwise the system keeps time pretty well.
You can increase the frequency that xp updates the clock - find this key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services \W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
and change the value of "SpecialPollInterval" to the number of seconds to wait between updates. Eg., 86400 to update the clock once a day...

Thanks for all the comments.

1) Battery: I just bought this computer last month, and it only loses time when it is running.

2) CPU: I did look at the EVENTVWR, and it did show some times when programs locked up, but it never coincided with when I had time problems.

3) Reset Intervals: It happens too randomly for this to help unless I did it every 5 minutes. However, I have noticed that it seems to stop keeping time shortly after it automatically corrects itself with the Internet time. I found how to change the registry to add more time setting locations, and have picked the Weather channel one. So far today it is working, but then it will work for days then go bad again...

This is the site that tells how to add more Internet Time sites: http://216.167.71.32/WindowsXP/tune-17.html
